August 27-28

Dear Parents,

It has been two fantastic days with your children in
Grade 1! The new school year is a massive challenge for any first grade student. Grade 1Sl however, doesn’t seem to fail to show great character! It is important to start elementary school confident in their abilities.
On the first day of school we made new friends, shared about ourselves, located the bathrooms, the play areas, the office, the auditorium, the library, science room and music and dance room.
What a lovely school we have!
Here are some activities we have done the past 2 days.
*My 1st day of 1st Grade activity sheet.
Students got the opportunity to share what they are most     excited about joining first grade. What their favorite      subject is?  What they think of their teacher.
 * Math: 1more or 1 less,  Math readiness worksheets
( Number writing practice,  Comparing numbers through 5, shapes, same and different, sorting, picture and bar graphs)
*  Reading:  SPLAT the cat!  Back to school, Splat!
Focus on words rhyming with splat.
*  Homeworksheet:  Color Words
*  Art:  SPLAT the cat head bands
*  Handwriting Practice :   Upper case A,  lower case a

I will be in touch with you to keep you informed about your child’s academic and behavioral performance. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Kind Regards,
Mrs Isabel Slabbert

Welcome to Grade 1!

Dear Parents and Students,

I am so excited to be your child’s teacher! My name is Isabel Slabbert and I come from South Africa. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  I have been teaching various grades during my 17 years in Taiwan.  I had, in fact, agreed to a change in direction this year as I was planning to broaden my educational experience as the school's new librarian. However, as the teacher hired for Grade 1 was unable to join us due to a family health issue, I am very happy to continue in the classroom until the replacement teacher arrives.

I am looking forward to meeting you and your child!
Please take the time to read through this information it will help us have a great start to the year! Please note that all teachers have new email addresses this year.  You may contact me at Isabel.slabbert@hdis.hc.edu.tw , if you have any questions or concerns.
