Friday Feedback 9/25
Dear Parents,
Grade 1SL had a lot of fun at the Hsinchu Fire Museum. Crawling through the dark, smoke room was the highlight of the day! Visiting the Fire Museum gave the students great insight on how fires were detected in the early years. Buildings in Hsinchu City were still very low and firefighters were able to detect smoke/fire from the 6th floor of the Fire Museum building.
Apart from having a very enjoyable field trip, we still managed to have a good academic week.
Literacy: Students were able to read the new stories by recognizing the high frequency words, and short “o” words. We reviewed sentences, with the focus on “Telling sentences” and “Questions”.
HF words: two, three, four, five, in
Short ‘o’ words: box, hot, fox, hop, mom
Challenge words: life cycle, seedling, cone.
In Math students read addition sentences to find the whole, solve stories about joining, adding numbers in any order and using objects to solve story problems.
Social Studies: Students learned about citizenship skills, taking votes and tallying results. They are also capable of differentiating between rights and responsibilities.
Science: Life Cycle of a plant. The students have a good understanding about how plants grow and change.
Art: Leave Coloring book. Students got to read the color names, write sentences, color, cut and paste their pictures on colored paper.

Hope you had
a good week.
Here are a
few ideas I would like to share with you on how to be involved and stay
involved in your child’s everyday life.

that day.

· * Read to and with your child daily,
and asking questions about what is being read.
· * Praise your child’s efforts.
· * Take your child to places and talk
about the visits.
· * Share responsibilities at home.
· * Love and treasure every minute
together.
We had another busy week at school. The students are all eager to learn
and participate in classroom activities. Overall, I am filled with pride when I
see just how well the students learn and act.
Literacy: We are learning about different sentences. This week we focused on “Telling
sentences” and “Questions”. They learned how to punctuate telling sentences and
questions. The students got to read the GET SET STORY, A Big Hit. They focused
on short “i” words : sit, hit, big, pig, wig, and High Frequency
words: a, have, who, to, find.
Math: Problem Solving: The students
acted out numbers to solve problems. We started our new topic which covers
making numbers 6, 7, 8.
Science: Sorting Plants. Students have
learned how plants can be grouped.
Social Studies: Students discussed
the roles and responsibilities of leaders and The Government.
Art: Leaf Art. Students used poster paint to trace
different sizes of leaves. They also painted some leaves to add some color to
their art work.

Dear Parents,
We had a busy, but fruitful week! The students are getting
used to following the curriculum and getting into our daily school routine.
Literacy:
What is a sentence?, Naming parts, Action Parts, Telling
sentences. The students are familiar with the naming as well as the action part
of a sentence.
Math:
The students got the opportunity to use counters to model
numbers an to solve problems. We started Topic 2 where students did comparing
and ordering numbers. Numbers get divided into two groups and the students need
to determine which group had more or which group had fewer. Numbers are compared
using “less than” and “Greater than”.
Ordering 3 numbers: “least, between, greatest”
Number lines: Visual learning. “before” and “after”
Social studies: Students learned the importance of
rules and laws. They also identified the roles and responsibilities of leaders
in our community and a t school.
Science:
Plants:Parts of a plant.
Art:
Paper
Plate Flower. The students traced their hands, cut them out and made beautiful
hand-printed flowers.
There is a flow in activities and bookwork going on. The
students are working hard and trying their best. Thank you for your continuous support! WE ALL WANT THE VERY BEST FOR YOUR CHILD.

Dear Parents, September 4th, 2015
Another active week has passed, and the focus continues to be on
reading and writing abilities. All the students have been eager to learn and
their enthusiasm makes it a joy to be their teacher.
Literacy:
We have started reading MAC the Cat this week. The students are familiar
with rhyming words and short vowel words.
In Phonics we focused on consonants m, s, c, t and short vowel “a”.
Math: Numbers to
12. The students have been able to recognize numbers to 12 and write them
correctly. We focused on patterns for numbers to 9, and spatial patterns to 10.
Social studies: The students got familiarized with
rules in and around the school and at home. They also understand the word
“community” better. They now recognize the need for rules and laws in a
community.
In our ART lesson the students did a self-portrait, with line
effects and bright colors in the background. Students were very creative when
drawing themselves with the smallest details like missing teeth and pigtails.
Their drawings are all masterpieces!
Science: We started talking about the parts of
a plant. The students have an understanding of the stem, leaves, flowers, roots
and veins of a plant. Little Matt was kind enough to bring his plant to class
for the students to look at.
Handwriting Practice:
We have been writing letters Aa-Ll. Some students are not 100% sure
about Upper case and Lower case letters. Let’s keep on practicing!
