Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for attending our Parent-Teacher’s Conference this week. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to talk about your child’s progress in school. Your time was really appreciated.
We had fun listening to Show-and-Tell all week. The students were very excited, and well-prepared for their topics. Thank you for your support on this. Remember, our goal is to build their confidence and give the students the opportunity to share amongst themselves.
In our Literacy block we read two stories, The Trip & At the Aquarium. The students enjoyed reading about Mice going on a trip and then students visiting an Aquarium in real life. They got to learn fun facts about fish, their habitat and what they eat.
The students are able to read the stories aloud , and respond to them by answering the response questions orally. For Grammar we reviewed Nouns and pronouns. We also did some chapter review on Sentences and Synonyms.
In Math we finished Topic 7. We did addition to 12, subtraction, Pictures & Number Sentences, Topic review, Multiple Choice Test and Quiz.
We had our Science quiz on Chapter 2, Animals. The students were able to explain A Life Cycle, Name the different groups of Animals, and Match Animals to their groups. We will start Chapter 3 on PEOPLE, this coming week.
In Social Studies we learned about how people use Resources. The children completed a worksheet on different resources such as soil, fuel, trees, air and water, and explained, via drawings, how we can can take care of our resources. We have talked about recycling, and how to take care of our surroundings.
We finished our Kandinsky Fall Trees. They are gorgeous! The students chose three different colors to create their leaves. We love doing art!
Have a wonderful weekend with your family! Thank you for your support!

Friday Feedback 11/6
Dear Parents,
We had a pretty good week in Grade 1 SL! The week was short, but we managed to get all our academic work done, as well as some fun activities.
In Literacy we read the stories Ham and Eggs & Miss Jill’s Ice-cream Shop. The students were able to read the stories aloud and responded to Questions orally. In Grammar lesson we focussed on sentences where you put yourself last, for ex. Johnny and I are going to the park. Sarah and I hope to eat a pizza tonight. We also learned about pronouns. They all are able to recognize - he, she, it, they - as words that take the place of nouns.
We reviewed Topic 6 for Math and did a Math Quiz. Topic 7 is about subtracting with 0,1,2.
Science: We looked at the life cycle of animals (Salamander and Frog). We will have one more lesson to review Chapter 2, then the students will have a Quiz on animals.
Social Studies: The students have learned about rural and urban communities. They also learned how shelter and means of transportation affects human life.
Art: We started making Fall Trees, applying the Wassily Kandinsky method. The students love doing art activities which involve painting and cutting.
The Grade 1SL students will start their SHOW-AND-TELL this coming week. Let us encourage our children to learn how to speak and listen. Encourage them to introduce themselves and how to act in front of an audience. Teach them how to ask inquiry based questions, how to observe, use a variety of vocabulary, descriptive language and critical reasoning skills.
Our main idea is to increase confidence and praise them for their efforts, no matter how small.
Thank you for your continuous support. I am looking forward to seeing you at our Parent Teacher Meeting next week.
Have a fantastic weekend!
