Dear Parents,
Chinese New Year is here! HIS is covered in RED! There is love ALL around.
Families are gathering and celebrating the start of the new Year; The Year of The Monkey! It has been a week of Chinese New Year art and activities, also including making and writing Valentine cards. All the students are excited about the week of family time that starts tomorrow!
Literacy
We read the story, “EEK! There’s a Mouse in the House”. Numerous animals came to chase the mouse away, even big Mr. Elephant who was afraid of a teeny tiny mouse.
- Story Vocabulary:
barn, dancing, elephant, laying, marched, mercy, mouse, tangled.
- Phonics: we focussed on the long o and long u sounds.
bone, nose, home, stone,cone, drove, stove, rose, go, no, flute, huge, cute, mule, tune
- Writing: The students were able to choose any other animal that a mouse, and write their own story about that specific animal.
Math
We focussed on vocabulary like, greater than, less than, more and less. The students learned more about hundred charts, how to read and compare numbers, and how to find missing numbers on a hundred chart.
Social Studies
This was review week for Chapter 4, on “People Long Ago”. We also did our Chapter Test.
Art
The students made “handmade” Valentine’s day cards for their Valentines. They also decorated bags to collect their cards and treats on Valentine’s Day.
