Friday Feedback 5/20

Dear Parents,


We had such a fun-filled, wacky week in Grade 1SL. The students loved dressing up and building spirit as a class. A big Thank you to each parent for your effort in helping your child to dress-up for Spirit Week!


Literacy
We read the story, “When I Am Old with You”. It is a story about a child and a grandfather. The students got to see the relationship between a grandfathers and grandchildren. They also got the opportunity to share about their own grandparents.
High Frequency Words: around, dance, else, ever, ocean, open, talk, though. We also learned words with sounds for y, like any, by, my, cry, Granddaddy, my, try.


Writing
My Grandfather/ Grandmother. Write about the activities you and your grandparents like to do.


Math
In Math class we learned about using data from bar graphs, Location on grids, Collecting Data using Tally Marks and making real graphs. New vocabulary for this topic is: data, bar graph, tally marks.


Social Studies
We learned about Families around the World. They got to understand how each family member plays a different role in their household. We will have a test on Unit 5 next week.


Science
We reviewed Seasons, Summer and Spring. The students learned about fall and winter and their characteristics. We started to do review on Chapter 8.
We will have a chapter test next week.


RAZ Testing
Each child did RAZ reading and completed the comprehension questions.


Art
We did some free drawing, doodle art. Mother and baby owls.
